on choosing to build instead of scroll
well, here i am!
i'm holly, a late-20-something graphic designer, maker, wife, and parent of three beautiful pets.
this is my new blog/journal, margins. it's not meant to be particularly polished, more of a collection of thoughts on the sides of a page. things i'm noticing, questioning, or working through.
i scroll a lot. i know i do, it's easy, endless, overstimulating, gives the feeling of engagement without requiring much in return. it fills the spaces. i'm constantly taking in content and i feel like i'm hardly creating any of my own.
(this website, though, isn't really meant to be a content platform. sure, the goal is to eventually fill it with things i’ve made, but the main goal is to choose to create in the first place.)
building and creating is slower than scrolling. it's frustrating, it demands more thought, but it leaves you with the feeling of achievement. i think that's something i've been missing for a while, probably longer than i'd like to admit, and thus begins the experiment that is this website: what will change if i build more than i scroll?
